The Lee Memorial Health System Trauma Center is the only trauma center licensed by the State of Florida along Florida's west coast in an area that stretches from Tampa to Miami. It is designated by the State of Florida as a level II trauma center. Established in 1993 as part of the Lee Memorial Hospital Emergency Department, it serves a five-county area that includes Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties.
The LMHS trauma center has seen tremendous growth in its volume of patients served since its inception, and now treats more than 2000 victims of traumatic injury per year.
The Lee Memorial Health System Trauma Center has achieved and continues to pursue clinical excellence. All LMHS trauma surgeons have completed fellowships in trauma and surgical critical care. Each trauma nurse and emergency department nurse is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nurses Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course (ENPC). Most are either board certified in emergency nursing or are pursuing certification.
